Gregory Hayes
From faded fragments

Nancy Margolis Gallery

523 West 25th St, New York
February 28th - April 13th 2019

Opening Reception:
Thursday February 28th, 6 - 8 PM

Known for his intricate and harmonious work, Gregory Hayes explores through his work the equilibrium between systems and intuition, disorder and control, as well as the interconnectivity of colors. While produced with laborious complexity and meticulous execution, his paintings convey a feeling of effortlessness and serenity.

In his new exhibition, Hayes will present 6 new large-scale paintings from his on-going ‘Color Array’ series, displaying the artist’s use of repetitive paint drops and his systematic technique. The exhibition will also see the artist further his exploration of color interactions, and show a set of paintings using a new coloring method called ‘Ghost’.

 From Faded Fragments

Following the successive rhythm

of reaching distant dreams

in order to escape the shadows

of reconstructed landscapes

from faded fragments

pieced together with idealized

fortune or demise

This seemingly secure

as a way to define

the endless incline

as a way to deny

the gentle breeze

that kisses and caresses

thinning the cloud

to open the view

to the world behind the minds eye

Stepping past the perpetual promises

of imaginary moments

letting loose the grip

of the painted images and paper tigers

Breathe a breath

with no desires
